Overview

PHFE WIC provides in-house staff training for newly hired employees. On-going training for all employees include health and nutrition, counseling and group facilitation skills, breastfeeding and state-mandated topics

New Employees

Employees hired with the PHFE WIC program receive in-depth training to become proficient in providing first-rate WIC services and exceptional customer service.

New employees receive training in the following areas:

  • Integrated Statewide Information System (ISIS) computer system
  • Client-centered counseling techniques (Motivational Interviewing)
  • Group facilitation techniques
  • Customer Service and cultural awareness
  • Nutrition for pregnant and postpartum women, infants and young children
  • Breastfeeding
  • Other topics including including nutrition for teens, administrative skills, child abuse policies and employee wellness

Employees who are hired as Nutrition Program Assistants undergo an extensive evaluation of their knowlege and skills to become state-certified WIC Nutrition Assistants (WNA). This Process assesses competency in 6 areas: Communication and Cultrual Awareness, WIC Certification, Nutrition and Health in WIC, Individual Education (Counseling), Food Instruments and Food Packages, and Group Education
